Dr. Adewale M. Esan

University of Ibadan, Nigeria

As an academic staff, at the University of Ibadan, Department of Biochemistry in Nutritional and Industrial Biochemistry. I am responsible for research and teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students in Biochemistry courses. Professionally, my research work focuses on Plant biochemistry, molecular biology, and biotechnology. I have been involving in the use of plant growth regulators and biocontrol remediation of biotic and abiotic stresses in crop plants and technology development to explore biological control strategies in the agriculture system in minimizing the dependency of the farming community on synthetic chemicals. Based on this biotechnological approach, crop varieties have been improved through conventional crop breeding practices to give higher yields in a shorter space of time, in addition to salinity stress tolerance in vegetable crops. Also, my activity involves the use of eco-friendly plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in place of chemicals (due to the expensive nature and the environmental hazard of these chemicals to human health) as a disaster risk reduction in controlling both salinity stress (abiotic environmental factor) and soil-borne diseases (root-knot nematodes) (biotic environmental factor), which cause not only reduction in crop productivity but also reduce soil fertility that leads to food insecurity.
